Pikes Peak Hill Climb Tour
Join us on Saturday, July 10, 2021 for a very different AMR tour. We'll ascend Pikes Peak from a different perspective – that of the drivers who race up America’s Mountain at breakneck speeds. Don’t worry – we will observe all posted speed limits!
The tour will start at the Penrose Heritage Museum’s Hill Climb Experience, near the Broadmoor. We’ll talk about the history of this great race, check out the exhibits, and then hit the road. We will drive up the mountain, with stops at key points along the way to get the racer’s perspective and hear some interesting stories. Devil’s Playground will be our last stop in our Porsches, at which point we will enjoy being driven in luxurious shuttles to the summit (due to ongoing construction). The tour will conclude on the summit, where we'll explore the magnificent, just-opened Summit House, and (hopefully) sample their world-famous donuts. This tour will not include a formal lunch as we usually do but, of course, feel free to informally get together with your Porsche friends either at the Summit House, or after you make your way back down the mountain. Due to traffic on the mountain this tour will be limited to 25 cars.
Our host will be AMR’s own Chris Lennon, past Pikes Peak International Hill Climb winner and six-time podium finisher, who literally “wrote the book on Pikes Peak” with The Peak of Racing.
AMR Registration fee is $10 per car. Additionally, Pikes Peak Highway tickets will have to be purchased in advance at a discounted rate (a link to do so will be provided to purchase these special tickets).
Please arrive at the Penrose Heritage Museum, 11 Lake Circle, Colorado Springs, CO 80906, at 1:30pm. We'll spend about an hour for a mandatory drivers' safety meeting, registration and museum tour. Then, we'll depart for Pikes Peak. We expect to conclude the tour on the summit of Pikes Peak around 4:30pm-5pm.
