About this event
2019 Detroit Region SCCA Solo School
The Detroit Region Solo School is back! This drivers school is tailored for brand new autocross drivers and those with less than two years of autocross experience, and will focus on the very basics of autocross performance driving.
There is a classroom session on Friday, June 28th, that goes over the basics of how an event is run, basic solo safety information, and finally, basic performance driving concepts. The next day, June 29th, will consist of practicing these basic driving concepts in morning and afternoon driving sessions. The goal is to provide all students with a minimum of 12 runs during the Saturday driving sessions.
Sunday, June 30th is the Summer Heat solo. Registration for that event is separate from the school.
Pricing for the Solo School are as follows:
- SCCA members, $70
- Council, non-SCCA members, $80
There is a cap of 50 students for the Solo School. Those who aren't among the first 50 to register will be placed on the wait list. If students drop out, people on the wait list will be put on the student roster in the order that they appeared on the wait list. On June 27th, the student roster will be locked, and no additional students will be accepted.

2019 DRSCCA Safety Steward Training
There is a safety steward school running in parallel with the Solo School. If you'd like to become a safety steward or kart safety steward, or need to take the refresher course to renew your safety steward certification, this school is offered at no cost. The classroom segment is on Friday, June 28th, and runs at the same time as the Solo School classroom sessions.
Those who take the class on Friday can then serve as deputy safety stewards for the school on Saturday and the autocross on Sunday; if you work as a deputy safety for both events, the paperwork can be completed at the end of the weekend and submitted for your sign-off as a fully fledged safety steward.
2019 DRSCCA Worker Training
Now available are training courses for those who are interested in learning how to take on some of the more complex roles at an autocross. We will have courses on Registration, Timing and Scoring, and Equipment, with the training taking place on the pad at the Funmover (timing and equipment truck) where you will get hands on experience with the equipment and setup on Friday, June 28th.
We are also introducing a new training rewards program for those trainees who end up taking work assignments in Registration, Timing and Scoring, and Equipment. After the completion of working two events in one of the above disciplines, you and your training mentor will receive worker points. This is a new program we're trying out this year, with the goal of getting more people trained for critical autocross worker roles and rewarding the people who volunteer to learn the ropes and the people who train and mentor the new workers.
We have Worker Workshops for the following:
- Registration
- Timing and Scoring
- Equipment

Unless you make prior arrangements with the Solo School chair, students must attend both the Friday evening classroom session and the Saturday driving session.
