Welcome Drivers,

We appreciate you choosing Apex Driving Academy and Apex Lap Attack. You are attending a High Performance Driver Education (HPDE) Event. This is not racing. If we were racing, drivers would need full roll cages, special outfits and a license to race. Our goal is to provide a safe and fun environment for you to practice high performance driving. This includes helpful, mandatory classroom instruction for novice and intermediate students combined with up to 2 hours of track time. Novice drivers will have mandatory in-car instruction for this event. Your instructor pairing will go out the week of with contact information. Intermediate drivers have LIMITED in-car instruction for this event if instructors are available. IF we have instructors available, they will be assigned the day of the event. Advanced drivers will not have in car instruction but data analysis sessions will be available during your allotted time. Whatever your run group, be prepared to have lots of fun!

TIME & SCHEDULE: APEX Afternoons usually has a hot track at 2:00 PM. Please be at the track no later than ONE HOUR BEFORE the stated start time to receive your welcome envelope (including your appropriate wrist band and color sticker to go on driver side windshield for grid coordination), attend the mandatory driver’s meeting (usually starts 30 min before the track goes hot) and prepare your car. Each run group will be grouped by your segment, I.e. Novices only run with Novices, Intermediates run with Intermediates, etc. A FINAL SCHEDULE WILL BE IN YOUR WELCOME EMAIL AFTER REGISTRATION CLOSES THE WEEK OF THE EVENT.

WEATHER POLICY: ALL PROGRAMS RUN RAIN OR SHINE. Do not be put off by a forecast for rain - driving in the rain is an excellent learning experience, and will help improve your driving skills in all conditions. Remember, if it rains there is less wear and tear on your tires and on your brakes. Apex will cancel/reschedule only if track conditions are problematic or other unforeseen circumstances arise. We will work with you to get your registration set for a new track day if we must cancel or postpone a track date.

WHAT TO BRING & WEAR: APEX wants you to prepared for anything! This means layered clothing in inclement or unpredictable weather. Hats, sunscreen and bug repellent are highly encouraged. YOU MUST WEAR CLOTHES TOED SHOES WHILE ON TRACK. Short pants and short sleeves are ok but we encourage long, cotton pants for protection if something goes wrong. No tank tops or swimwear please.

Helmets are required (Snell 2015 or better). A limited number are available for rent - $20 cash for the day. Bring a credit card or drivers license as collateral for helmet rental, please. If you have pre-paid for your helmet rental, please allow us time to get drivers checked in and then we can help you with your rental.

APEX will do our best to provide water coolers with bottled water but we HIGHLY RECOMMEND BRINGING YOUR OWN WATER, SNACKS, and any refreshments or supplies you think you may need. We pride ourselves on maximizing your time on track but this likely means you will be exhausted by lunch, please plan accordingly!

Be sure you are physically/medically up to this challenge. If in doubt, consult your physician. This is an adrenaline-boosting event and it does take energy, concentration and stamina. Let us know if you need to leave early - it's okay.

CAR PREP & SUPPLIES: Cars must be emptied of all items (coins, papers, tools, mats, clothing, fast food wrappers, empty bottles of Diet Snapple, etc.) before driving on the track. This means nothing floating around in your car or flapping in the wind as you drive around the track. Distractions like that can spell disaster, so seriously - EMPTY out your CAR. Look under the seat, in map pockets, etc. for any random bits of paper, receipts or scrappy things that may become airborne.

Things like tire pressure gauge, extra quart of oil, some coolant, perhaps an extra set of brake pads, etc. are recommended. We want you to be able to take part in your track day and our suggestions are to help you with this goal. Some tracks have local mechanic shops so please reach out to the track for more information.

Driving on track is challenging and exciting, it requires that your car be in top form, so please do not take tech inspection on your vehicle lightly and complete this well before your track day. You will need to have plenty of brake pad material on your brakes. At least 50% pad material. Consider bringing extra pads just in case.

CAR NUMBERS: Student numbers are assigned through your MotorsportReg.com profile. If you do not have a number on your profile, you may choose a 2-digit number that IS NOT already assigned to a member of your run group. Numbers must be at a minimum of 12 inches tall and displayed on both sides of your car. These numbers help keep everyone safe on the track. RIDE ALONGS: Students may NOT give passenger rides to family, friends, etc. Please do not ask about this. Passenger rides may be given by Apex approved drivers only. Passenger dress code is the same as the driver dress code. Helmets/dress code policy applies for all passengers, just like it does for all drivers. Visitors are welcome to watch and encouraged. All visitors must check in and sign waivers, even if they are not taking a ride in an instructor or solo approved student’s car. Why? Because being on site at a track is an activity that involves risk. Visitors must know about the risks and sign a waiver to acknowledge this risk. Thank you in advance for sending your visitors to us to sign their waivers. All passengers able to ride along with solo approved drivers need to also register and get their wrist band as well, prior to getting in the car.
