About this event
"KAS" Kastner in his TR3
A mid-summer favorite, The WeatherTech® International Challenge with Brian Redman is one of the largest vintage racing events in the United States and features over 400 cars competing in several groups. 2023 will feature The Kastner Cup. Don’t forget to mark your calendars as the Concours d’ Elegance is Located Downtown in the Village of Elkhart Lake, WI. Friday Concours d'Elegance is for RACE CARS THAT ARE ENTERED IN THE EVENT and Saturday Concours d'Elegance is for STREET CARS! Both nights are a can’t miss event for any enthusiast.
2023 will mark the 21st running of the Kastner Cup. The race will celebrate the 71st year of Triumph sports cars in competition. The Kastner Cup was named in recognition of the career accomplishment and legacy of R.W. “Kas” Kastner who passed away on April 11, 2021 at the age of 92. Kas Kastner was one of the most influential individuals responsible for the racing success of Triumph sports cars from the late 1950’s through 1970 and beyond. To this day, his series of Competition Preparation Manuals are a must read for competitors in Triumph sports cars. Later in his career, Kastner directed the Nissan IMSA GTP team that won the manufacturers’ championship three years in a row and the drivers’ championship four years in a row; a remarkable achievement. In his honor, the Kastner Cup is held each year at a different Vintage Racing event around the country and is open to all Triumphs and Triumph specials.
All Triumph cars will be able to race in their appropriate run groups. Group 2, 3, or 8 then all together in a Feature Race. All Triumph cars will be parked in the North Paddock.
Additionally, there will be a special Ferrari Feature Corral at the 2023 WeatherTech International Challenge with Brian Redman. Having this special Ferrari feature is a fitting tribute as Ferrari’s have raced at the fabled four-mile 14-turn circuit since the track’s inception and many notable Ferrari’s with Road America lineage will be on display. For those unaware, Carroll Shelby triumphed in a Ferrari 121LM at the first June Sprints in 1956, which is SCCA’s longest-running amateur road racing event. The event lives on, now as an SCCA Major event, the only one that carries enough tradition, history, and clout to be run as a free-standing event and not as part of a double National weekend. Road America is expecting a bevy of Ferrari’s from nearly every era of racing and will also host a special all Ferrari parade lap during the weekend with additional activities. The weekend is a can’t miss opportunity for any enthusiast.
