About this event
Hello Everyone – here is the current plan/itinerary for the Pocono Region’s June 17 & 18 Watkins Glen Road and Track Day event (this coincides with the PCA Zone 1 Club Race at WGI and Father’s Day weekend). Please look this over and reserve your participation spots ASAP.
We will be leaving from the Clarks Summit Waffle House/Dunkin Donuts shared parking lot by 8:00 am. The address is 933 South State Street, Clarks Summit, PA. The driver’s meeting will be at 7:45 am. So, if you will be eating at the Waffle House (or next-door Dunkin Donuts) give yourself enough time to be done eating and paying to be at the 7:45 meeting. Also, please make sure you have enough gas to get to Watkin’s Glen and beyond. We will be heading north past the Nicholson viaduct and will be making one rest stop en-route to Watkins Glen. Directions will be provided at or before the meeting (Randy and I will be pre-driving the route in mid/late May). We need to be at the Watkins Glen International Racetrack by 11:30 to get checked in for the paced laps of the track. The address is 2790 County Route 16, Watkins Glen, New York, 14891. The paced laps are scheduled to start at noon.
Depending on our arrival timing and the registration process you may be able to eat something quick before the paced laps, but the concession stands should still be available after the paced laps (they were last time). After the paced laps a sandwich buffet lunch will be available in the Media Center for $17 per person. You can watch some of the Club Race from the Media Center, the Tower Suites, or go to other track locations (paddock & grandstands). Enjoying the PCA Club Race sensations (sights, sounds, smells, etc.) will be concluded with a departure from Watkins Glen at ~2:45 pm to go to the Corning Museum of Glass.
The group will then head to the Corning Museum of Glass for a guided tour. The Corning Museum features a wide variety of both permanent and temporary exhibits. The museum is in downtown Corning, NY. The address is 1 Museum Way, Corning, NY 14830. The tour is planned for 3:30 pm and lasts about 90 minutes. For our group the tour will cost $25 per person.
After the museum you are free to do your own thing (enjoy shopping in the extensive Museum gift shop, walk around Corning, head home, go somewhere else, go jump in a lake, etc.).
You could also drive a few blocks over to the Radisson Hotel Corning (in the Southside Historic District) where there are rooms available at $179+tax/fees per night (we have a block of 12 rooms held until May 18, so reserve early). There are two ways to reserve a room: 1) by calling the hotel at (607) 962-5000 and request a reservation and mention the Porsche Club of America Pocono Region or 2) use their website ( https://www.radissonhotelsamericas.com/en-us/hotels/radisson-corning ), input the date of our reservation (June 17, 2023), selection Promotional Code, then type POCONO to receive the group rate.. The hotel’s address is 125 Denison Pkwy E, Corning, NY 14830. We have set-up a group dinner in their private dining room at 7 pm and will order off their menu. They are also providing a hospitality room for us Saturday evening before and after dinner. There will be some complimentary light breakfast refreshments available in the hospitality room Sunday morning.
The business part of this is that food is on your own (I like bringing snacks, lunch stuff, and drinks in the car), the paced laps cost $30 per car and the Corning Museum tour is $25 per person. We will need to have people pay the club in advance, through MotorSportReg.com, for the paced laps and the Corning Museum, and the other activities/food/souvenirs are pay on your own the day of the event.
Please let Randy know if you will be participating in the following activities or have any questions.
Thanks. Randy Duckworth and John Emmett
