Tulips & Other Spring Flowers

Saturday, April 12, 2025

An SCCA Touring RoadRally/Social Evening Starting At World Wide Technology Raceway  in Madison, Ill., and Ending at Schlafly's Highland Square Brew Pub in Highland, Ill.

Description: Tulips & Other Spring Flowers is an evening/nighttime Monte-Carlo-style RoadRally/tour of about 60 miles. We have designed the event with the new/occasional rally team in mind. Expect paved roads, easy-to-follow tulip diagrams for route instructions, and checkpoint locations identified by official mileages and arrival times. Timing will be in minutes and seconds, with checkpoint arrival times calculated to whole minutes. After the rally, stick around to enjoy conversation and hospitality at our finish location.

Start: World Wide Technology Raceway, 700 Raceway Blvd, Madison, IL 62060

.Finish: Schlafly Highland Square, 907 Main St. Highland, IL 62249

Size of the field: We are limiting the field to 25 teams.

Registration: Online only here at MotorsportReg.com. No on-site registration. Entries on a first-come basis. Registration closes Wednesday, April 9, at 11:59 p.m.

Provisional Schedule:

  • April 12 check-in: 4:45 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the start.
  • Safety meeting/Rally School Q&A: 6:00 p.m.
  • First car departs the start: 6:31 p.m.
  • First car arrives at the finish: approximately 8:30 p.m.

What you need:

  •  A vehicle
  • A driver and navigator
  • A smartphone or tablet with the Richta GPS Competitor App installed (this app, free from Google Play or Apple’s App Store, is our timing and scoring system--see timing and scoring note below for more details)
  • A map light or similar device
  • A clipboard and calculator, pencils and paper
  • A happy inclination to take a springtime evening drive

What you don’t need: Special rally lights on your vehicle. (Your OEM headlights should do just fine.)

Entry fee: $30.00 per team for SCCA teams, $50.00 per team for non-member teams. An SCCA team is defined as a team in which at least one participant is an SCCA member. The $50.00 entry fee for a nonmember team includes a $20.00 SCCA Weekend Membership for the team’s “primary entrant,” i.e., the member who pays the entry fee. The other member of a non-SCCA team will receive a free SCCA Trial Membership (as will any non-SCCA member of an SCCA team).

Information: James H. (Jim) Heine, rallymaster, 314.922.6120; roadrallychair@stlscca.org.

Good things to know: As indicated above, we will use the Richta Rally GPS Checkpoint System for timing and scoring. To compete, each participating team must have a smartphone or tablet with active data cellular service (no airplane mode and no wi-fi only devices) with the Richta Competitor App installed. The app will report your arrival time and leg score to your cellphone or tablet moments after you pass each GPS checkpoint location. To download the app, search for "Competitor Richta" or "Richta GPS Competitor App"  at Google Play or in Apple’s App Store. For more information about the Richta GPS system visit https://richtarally.com.

The SCCA Detroit Region’s rally page has an excellent summary of the Richta system, especially its Competitor App. Visit http://drscca.org/rally/using-the-richta-competitor-app. It’s is worth your time.

Finally, April 12 is a full-moon night. If Mother Nature cooperates, we will have a beautiful evening.

Event requirements

Rules and Waivers:

The standard SCCA rules regarding road-rallies will be observed. To wit: proof of valid driver’s license and current auto insurance, vehicle inspection (self-inspection by the rally team), and signing of applicable SCCA forms.

All participants will be required to read and sign the standard SCCA waiver before being allowed to participate in this event. The signing of the SCCA’s “Release and Waiver of Liability, Assumption of Risk and Indemnity Agreement” is a precondition to participating in any SCCA event. Any adult, age 18 or older, must sign the waiver.

Minor Participants: A Minor taking part in this event must have an Annual Minor Waiver on file with the SCCA for the current calendar year, i.e., 2025.

The Age of Majority is 18 years except in Alabama and Nebraska, where it is, 19 and Mississippi, where it is 21.

The Annual Minor Waiver will be issued to the Minor by the SCCA National Office. For more information about this process, click on the following document and see the section “Minor Annual Waivers”: Digital Annual Waiver 12-01-2021.pdf.

Before obtaining an “Annual Waiver Minor” for a child, nonmember parents/guardians, as well as the minor in question, must obtain an SCCA Guest Account.

1. Log onto scca.com.
2. Click on “Join/Renew” in the information bar at the top of the page.
3. Click on “Create a Guest Account.”
4. Click on “I don’t have a Member ID.”
5. Complete the required information.

Once you, as parents or guardians, have received your Guest Accounts, you can begin the process of acquiring an Annual Minor Waiver for your child. See again the document noted above: Digital Annual Waiver 12-01-2021.pdf.

Do not wait until the last moment to obtain an Annual Minor Waiver for your Minor child/participant. SCCA staff normally are not available after regular business hours or during weekends; so a last-minute Annual Minor Waiver request cannot be processed before the start of this road rally. Without a valid waiver, your Minor will not be allowed to participate.

Finally, please read carefully:

If you are registering yourself for the first time, and you will be paying for the event entry, choose Option 1 on the order form and follow the prompts.

If you are registering as a co-entrant and your partner has already registered, choose Option 2 on the order form.
