Detroit Region SCCA
presents the
2024 Road Rally School
Saturday, May 11, 2024, 11:30 AM – 5:30 PM
The Detroit Region SCCA is excited to announce the return of Road Rally School! All are welcome regardless of experience level: if you’re interested in Road Rally and unsure where to start, competed in some events and want to improve your scores, or simply want to try out a new kind of motorsports competition!
Taught by 2020 Stock Class National Champions Sawyer Stone and Alison Lee, Rally School will consist of “classroom” portions where you’ll walk through all of the terms, rally sections, and how-to of following instructions and keeping time to achieve low scores in Road Rally. In addition, you’ll put these new skills to the test over two rally sections where you’ll encounter everything you may run into in a Road Rally. Our goal is to give you the skills and confidence to be competitive in DRSCCA Road Rally events.
What You Need:
- A Teammate: Road Rally is a team sport! Teams consist of Driver and Navigator. No teammate? Let us know, we can pair you up with someone
- A Car: Any road-legal car is allowed. Most of the roads you’ll drive are unpaved backroads around South Lyon, but ordinary passenger cars will be just fine
- A SmartPhone: Nearly all checkpoints in Road Rallies are set up via GPS. You’ll need the Richta Competitor App to test out your new skills
- Pen, Paper, and Calculator: Road Rally has some math and some notes. A basic 4-function or cell phone calculator can do everything you need, but it should be a phone that won’t be used for the Competitor App.
- Look for "Competitor Richta GPS Checkpoints" app on Google Play Store or Apple App Store or click on the appropriate link:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.richta.cpa2&hl=en_US
https://apps.apple.com/us/app/competitor-richta-checkpoint/id1448298019
Prior to the rally, all the checkpoint information (locations by Latitude and Longitude and the correct arrival times) is loaded onto the internet by the rally master. People who register for the rally are given a car number and the password for the app. Each Rally Team then goes to the site and downloads the information for their car. The contestants will NOT be able to view Rally Master information. During the rally, when each car reaches a checkpoint, the contestant’s device will signal a checkpoint has been reached with a “bing-bong” sound. The device will then display your time entered and your score and say “early” or “late”. Your total score for the rally to that point will also be displayed.
Visit the Richta app information page at http://drscca.org/rally/using-the-richta-competitor-app/ to learn more about how the app works and how to use it.

Event requirements
Please read carefully:
If you are registering yourself for the first time please choose Option 1 on the order form and follow the prompts.
If you are registering as a co-entrant and your partner has already registered, please choose Option 2 on the order form.
If you do not already have a MotorsportReg.com account, click the 'Create New Account' button below. You will be asked to input your member number and Region of Record. This is your SCCA Membership number and home region. You must have this information in your user profile to avoid needing a weekend membership for this event. (Also, make sure your MotorsportReg.com user name matches exactly as it appears on your SCCA Membership card... otherwise, the member verification process will not validate your membership.)
It is not necessary to register as a team. Let us know and we will try to match you up with someone if you are coming alone.
