Welcome to Real Clean Racing with Northeast GT
Northeast GT 2024 Event Calendar
NO ENTRY FEES. What? That’s right, Northeast GT Round 1 at Thompson is an entirely free event! We’re making a big investment to get Northeast GT off the ground, making it easy for racers to see what NEGT has to offer. BOTH (2) DAYS OF NEGT ROUND 1 @ THOMPSON are FREE, including a 3-hour race and GT Race School each day!!
Northeast GT stands for Northeast Grassroots Touring (NEGT), and Northeast GT exists to bring real, clean racing to the road racing circuits of New England and the Northeast. NEGT presents the Northeast GT Cup – a strictly no-contact racing championship.
Round 1 of the 2024 Northeast GT Cup is at Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park and features a 3-hour race as well as GT Race School on both Saturday and Sunday. Spectators are welcome. Free Camping for the weekend from Friday night until Monday morning. Limited electric hook-up is available.
Open Practice:
Friday HPDE - our track day partner organization, MassTuning, will be hosting a high performance driving event (including novice, intermediate, and advanced run groups) on Friday, May 31st, offering four 30min sessions as well as an hour of open track for 3 hours of seat time per registration.
GT Race School:
For new, returning, or current racers, the GT Race School offers a racing curriculum that spans the classroom, paddock/pit-lane, and on-track sessions with the purpose of guiding drivers towards a clean race. Advanced drivers who don't have racing credentials or experience may participate in the GT Race School and race in the Northeast GT Cup after successful completion of the race school. Any licensed and/or experienced Northeast GT Cup eligible driver looking to brush up on their skills, or warm-up for the race weekend, may sign-up to attend the GT Race School on-track sessions.
GT Race School drivers can expect to receive multiple classroom, paddock/pit lane, and on-track sessions leading up to a classroom and paddock test as well as a mock graduation race:
- On-track sessions – Get up to speed in a controlled, progressive manner, when transitioning from track days to wheel-to-wheel racing. Begin with open passing sessions, including passing exercises, starts & restarts, and finish with a practice graduation race.
- Paddock/pit-lane sessions – Learn about pit lane and fuel safety, practice vehicle exits, and prepare for upcoming on-track sessions.
- Classroom – Learn slow to go fast. Classroom sessions throughout the day emphasize wheel-to-wheel essentials, such as mirrors and managing nearby traffic, passing and defending craft and strategies, Northeast GT racing flags and commands, and tips to manage safety and risk.
One (1) driver per vehicle. In some exceptional cases, where NEGT officials combine all race groups into one, GT Race School sessions may be extended to accommodate a vehicle with two (2) drivers. Please email Race@Northeast-GT.com directly regarding multiple drivers sharing a vehicle for the GT Race School. All vehicles participating in GT Race School sessions must be prepared for wheel-to-wheel racing. Vehicles may be registered for both GT Race School and NEGT Cup Qualifying & 3-hour Race sessions.
Race Day:
NEGT Cup Racing: Each race day will feature multi-class racing. Depending on vehicle count, overall pace and lap time spread/closing speeds, and track conditions, NEGT officials may opt for one (1) or multiple race groups. In the case of multiple race groups, entries may be split between the race groups by class. Two (2) driver swaps required per race. Can be run with teams of 1, 2, or 3 drivers.
NEGT Cup Car Classes – All vehicles must be production-car based and prepared for wheel-to-wheel racing, run 200 treadwear tires, and meet Factory Rated Power-to-Weight based ratios:
- GT7 (7:1 factory power-to-weight)
- GT9 (9:1 factory power-to-weight)
- GT11 (11:1 factory power-to-weight)
- GT14 (14:1 factory power-to-weight)
- GT18 (18:1 factory power-to-weight)
Power-to-Weight ratios are otherwise Modified based on: vehicle age, major engine modifications, drivetrain layout, transmission, differential, suspension, tire width, and aero. If you need help classing your car, please refer to the NEGT Classing Calculator. Feel free to submit the form if there are still any questions.
All drivers must hold a racing license and/or significant prior wheel-to-wheel experience. Drivers successfully completing a Northeast GT Race School are also eligible.
