What is the Junior Discovery Program?
Atlanta Motorsports Park is proud to present the Junior Discovery Experience, a program designed to introduce children into the world of go kart racing. The academy will take place at Atlanta Motorsports Parks Pro Kart Track, designed by renowned F1 architect Hermann Tilke. This kart track is celebrated globally as one of the most unique and finest built to date. Our Junior Discovery program takes place on a portion of the track known as “C” Track, a .26-mile-long, oval-shaped course with five turns, specifically designed for children aged 5-11.
The Junior Discovery program is perfect for younger kids interested in karting, whether they aim to race karts or simply enjoy the sport with family members. Targeting children aged 5 to 11, the program is designed to be fast-paced and fun to keep the kids engaged. We pack hours of training into a short, two-hour window, ensuring it's quick, enjoyable, and exciting for the children.
In this program, your child will be introduced to basic safety knowledge, receive a kart overview, and get an introduction to driving around a cone course, followed by a lead-follow session on the race track. This basic course is ideal for children who have never driven karts or other motorized vehicles, teaching them the fundamentals of driving, including basic steering, turning, acceleration, and braking skills with instructors.
Please note that we recommend private lessons for children with experience driving dirt bikes, karts, or other motorsports. If your child is over our 5’2, 130lb limit for our Junior Discovery karts, we recommend private lessons as well. If your child is under the age of 8, we highly recommend private lessons as we do not have a class for them!
Event requirements
Attire?
Kids wear shorts and a short sleeve shirt. We will provide racing suits, helmets, and gloves. The kids need to wear tennis shoes, NOT opened toe shoes. A change of clothes might be wise as they will get sweaty. Also, if you and the kids are staying for the pool time, bring a bathing suit for you and the child. Also, we encourage you to take lots of pictures!
What will be provided?
Kart ready to race, helmet, racing suit, and water.
Cost to participate in this program?
The program is approximately 2 hours long. This program is designed to give back to the young generation and is not one we make a profit on even when fully booked. We do this to help these children and provide them with an entry point into motorsports.
Where is the program located?
It is located at the Pro-Kart Track at Atlanta Motorsports Park, 20 Duck Thurmond Road, Dawsonville, GA 30534. 678-381-8527. Once you arrive at the gate, you will check in a waiver. Please note, only the parent or legal guardian can sign a waiver. (If you are bringing a child that you are not the legal guardian you will need the parents to sign and notarize the waiver located here https://atlantamotorsportspark.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/Minor-Waiver-Notary.pdf ) From the gate, go straight to the racing kart track, ask the guard how to get there. Directions from the gate: turn immediately right after the gate, the road will dead-end, follow it to the left. Make your next left BEFORE the guardrail and follow the access road along the car race track to the kart track. Park at the lower parking lot (Paddock) You will see a tent set up next to the race track fence line. This will be your registration point and check-in. The entire program will happen in this area, as well as the lower part of the race track.
