INTO THE NIGHT 2023
They're ba-ack.
On December 9, 2023, ITN will be presenting a "Starlite" style, map-based, Monte Carlo Road Rally. This rally format allows the entrant to find their own course on the maps. By the way, Google directions won't help. It's all on you. This format uses a unique kind of course control - the Standoff. Standoffs are marked on the map, and each Checkpoint has a Standoff. You must go to the Standoff BEFORE you go to the corresponding Checkpoint. At each Standoff, you'll receive specific information about that Checkpoint. That information will allow you to find where the Checkpoint is located, and to figure out a route to get there. There may be Standoffs for more than one Checkpoint at a single location. If so, you only need to go to that Standoff location ONCE.
Cars will run one minute apart. Car Zero Times will be given for all Checkpoints. Just add your car number in minutes to the Car Zero Time to get your correct Target Time for each Checkpoint. Checkpoints are to be entered in chronological order.
The object of this event is to enjoy driving sweeping, beautiful, challenging back roads at legal speeds while following simple directions in order to pass a series of Checkpoints at just the right time. There are no preset average speeds, just run at the posted speed limits (rally is timed at least 2 mph BELOW those limits and has pauses where needed). If you reach a timed Checkpoint early, you can pull over, out of traffic lanes, and either creep or stop (anywhere it is safe and legal to do so) and wait for your target time to pass by the Checkpoint. If you run generally at the speed limit, you should reach each Checkpoint with around 30 seconds to spare. All Timed Checkpoints are referenced by prominent signs on the course. The rally will run rain or shine.
This rally will be an SCCA sanctioned Regional Tour Road Rally and will use the Richta GPS Competitor app for timing and scoring. This app is FREE and easy to use on any GPS-enabled smartphone or other device. Go to the App Store or Google Play Store or https://richtarally.com/ and download it. There is no need for additional timing equipment; your Official Time shows in the app!
The rally is about 200 miles long and you will have about six hours of driving nirvana with break(s) for gas, food, and rest stops. Rallymasters are Scott Morgan and Robb Warren. Finish will be the Santa Clarita area.

This is an SCCA Regional Course Rally sponsored by the Into the Night Rally Team and CalClub. Trophies will be awarded to the top teams in 2 Classes -- NOVICE (5 or fewer previous rallies or any kind, and no previous 1st place trophies in Novice) and REGULAR (everybody else). Novice class will be provided additional information to help them determine the correct course. There are no navigational equipment restrictions in either class.

Event requirements
To simplify the online registration process here at MSR, only the person paying needs to register. That person can be the driver OR the navigator, but you will need the name, email address, physical address and cell phone number for BOTH people in order to complete the registration process. Also, for SCCA Members, you will need the SCCA Member Number for the Driver and/or Navigator, if applicable. By the way, the Driver and Navigator must be two different people.
All participants will be required to sign a waiver in person at the Start of the rally. If anyone in the car is under 18 as of the Start of the rally, you will need complete the online SCCA Minor Waiver AND Parental Consent forms in advance.
