About this event
Earn your MSF Level 1 HPDE coach/instructor certification online!
The Motorsport Safety Foundation, in collaboration with leaders in the high performance driver education (HPDE) community, has created standards for the training and certification of high performance driving instructors. The MSF Level 1 instructor certification is the first step toward becoming an MSF-certified in-car instructor.
To earn a Level 1 certification, you must complete an online course and earn a passing grade on the final assessment. You will then receive an MSF hard card and certificate of completion, and be listed in the master database of Level 1 instructors.
The MSF online course uses a different website. Within a few hours of registering here, you will receive an e-mail with login information for that site. If you do not receive that e-mail within 8 hours of registering (and it's not in your Junk or Spam folders), contact the MSF Registrar or send an e-mail to contact@motorsport-safety.org.
The fee for Level 1 is $50 for US instructors and $60 for international instructors.
MSF is registered as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Contributions to MSF are tax-deductible.
Event requirements
You can complete the online course on your own schedule. Be sure to view each course module in its entirety and take all the quick quizzes. You will need a score of 90% or better on the final assessment to pass the course, but you can re-take the final assessment as many times as you want.
Be sure to upload a ID-style photo of yourself to your MotorsportReg profile, and be sure your mailing address on MotorsportReg is accurate. We use your MotorsportReg profile photo on your hard card, and mail everything to your mailing address on MotorsportReg.
Once you have completed Level 1, you will be eligible for hands-on Level 2 training.
Level 2 programs are conducted by HPDE organizations whose instructor training programs have been certified by MSF. These programs include both classroom discussions and on-track role playing, where an experienced instructor plays the role of the student and a Level 2 candidate plays the role of the instructor.
Individuals who successfully complete a Level 2 program are prepared to begin instructing students in-car on track.
For more information, please visit the MSF web page.
MSF is run entirely by volunteers. Your fee supports direct operating expenses: mailings, webinars, replacement hard cards, and travel for volunteers who audit training programs.
