Drive & Dine Event
Backroads through Northern Maryland and Pennsylvania Amish Farm Country
Saturday, April 5, 2025 (rain date Sunday, April 6)
If you like driving your car where the journey is as important as the destination, especially if the journey involves driving on scenic backroads, then join us as we welcome spring in the Mid-Atlantic region with a good drive. Early April is a great time to dust off those winter cobwebs and enjoy the open road with like-minded friends.
Join us for a 90-mile / two-hour drive to lunch during which we will travel mostly backroads (very minimal interstate highway) from the forests and farms of Northern Maryland on MD 147, across the mighty Susquehanna River on US Route 1, and through Amish farm country on PA Route 10 to an old-fashioned country restaurant from a time before McDonald's. Several Amish buggies are very likely to be seen on this route!
Where We Start Our Adventure...
The Roast Coffee & Café
5205 Glen Arm Road East
Glen Arm, MD 21057
This is a new coffee shop in a recently renovated and repurposed Victorian-style railroad depot in the Long Green Valley - originally built circa 1909 for the Baltimore & Lehigh Railroad. Look for John Gates' Mars Red E400 Cabriolet, with the top down if the weather warms up enough, just the way a convertible is meant to be driven!
Plan on a quick driver's meeting at 9:15 a.m. before we leave The Roast at 9:30 a.m.

After Lunch…
There are two car museums a short distance away and the Mid-Atlantic Air Museum nearby. Any of these choices is a good way to make a good day even better. Information on these will be included with the turn-by-turn directions sent after you register.
Suggestion: Make sure you have a navigator in your car to follow the directions so the driver won’t have to multi-task and can safely enjoy all the views, too.
Special thanks to John Gates for championing this event!
