About this event
Welcome to the 45th YEAR of the VARAC Vintage Grand Prix!
Please join us for the 45th running of the VARAC Vintage Grand Prix being held June 12-15, 2025 at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park on the legendary Grand Prix track.
Classes for this event include:
Vintage (pre 1962)
Historic (pre 1973)
Classic (pre 1999)
Modern Classic (pre 2006)
Formula Classic (open wheel / Monoposto race cars pre 2006)
Special Guests – Sports 2000 North America Series of special sports racers
In addition, the Toyo Tires F1600 Championship Series will be joining us.
There should be something for everyone – it promises to be a great weekend of vintage racing.
As mentioned, we welcome the Sports 2000 North America group as a feature group. Sports 2000 is a special class of two-seat, mid-engined, open-cockpit, full-bodied sports racers that promise great, close competitive racing. They will have their own Feature Race on Sunday morning – something you won’t want to miss!
We will also have a special all “Tin Tops” Feature Race! Tin tops are VH or MC/CL sedans or hatchbacks under 2500 pounds. We really look forward to welcoming cars that ran the iconic Trans Am & IMSA small bore series from the 60’s thru the 80’s.
Event Information:
Thursday, June 12 is Track Orientation/Test Day. This is open to competitors specifically for the following purposes:
- Drivers that have not run on the Mosport Grand Prix track previously or are returning to racing after more than 2 years you must attend the Test Day. It may be possible to receive a waiver from the Race Director (varacracedirector@gmail.com) please confirm in writing
- Track Orientation – if you haven’t run Mosport before, please use these sessions to learn the circuit
- Refresh your skills – if you’re just coming back to racing use these sessions “to shake off the cobwebs”
- Test – if you have a new (to you) car or a new setup , this is your opportunity to “sort” any potential bugs out of the car
- Track time – if you just want seat time!
- Street Car Lapping
Videos and notes on driving CTMP/Mosport will be posted on our VARAC website – first timers are encouraged to study these!
Street Lapping sessions will be offered on Thursday as part of Test Day.
SOME NOTES CONCERNING RUN GROUPS & SPECIAL RACES:
We are limiting run groups for practice, qualifying and Races to 50 entries. This may require us to institute wait lists for some of the groups. Please register early so we can adjust the groups to allow as many entries as possible to run.
We are grouping our Vintage-Historic & Classic/Modern Classic entries based on LAP TIMES, not engine displacement or “production car class". This ensures great, competitive racing. When registering please select the run group with the appropriate lap/bracket times. If you don't know what your lap time is likely to be, please look at the list of entrants and place yourself with comparable cars. You will be able to change run groups after Friday or Saturday's sessions if you feel you are in the wrong group. We will provide more guidance on this and you will be able to adjust your group. If you need help on this please contact the Race Director (varacracedirector@gmail.com). Note, if you are a VARAC VHX please align with a bracket (i.e. VH 4X).
The Formula Classic group will NOT be using lap times, but will be classed by formula/vehicle type. (ex-Formula Juniors will be one class). Please contact the Race Director (varacracedirector@gmail.com) if you are uncertain as to how your car should be classed.
We will be running Special Races as follows:
Sports 2000 Feature Race on Sunday morning
The “Tin Top” race open to all cars closed wheel and with a top under 2500 lbs.
The Ludwig Heimrath Open Wheel Challenge – basically an “all comers” race for open wheel cars.
MG vs Triumph Challenge Race for these longtime UK rivals including award of the Tony Simms Cup for MG’s
The Rudy Bartling Nation's Cup. This will be a home nation for “Tin Tops” against other nation’s closed wheel cars from the rest of the world (RoW)” race. We will select the Tin Top home nation at a later date as it will be based on entries. More details will follow. Open to VH cars and Classic cars < 2500 lbs.
Please register for these, as applicable.
Note Special Races may be shortened or cancelled if the main schedule is compromised by unforeseen delays.
We have a full program of off-track evening events, as follows:
On Thursday evening there will be a meet and greet with food, beverages and live music.
On Friday evening is the Banquet in the CTMP Conference Centre (cash bar), followed by live music in the lower paddock.
On Saturday evening we have the Famous Paddock Crawl. The Paddock Crawl involves 3 stations throughout the paddock; one for wings & ribs (and beer), another for submarine sandwiches (and beer) and the last stop Mudmen band at the top of the hill (and possibly more beer if you are so inclined).
The meet & greet, banquet and paddock crawl are included for a driver and crew with your entry fee.
Off track on Sunday, Fathers' Day, is the always popular Field of Dreams Car Show and car parade.
We also welcome Mini Meet North – lot’s of great Mini’s to see.
As we get closer to the event we will post regulations, waivers, schedules and additional information such as how to bring a Racecar From Outside Canada, How to Drive Mosport etc. at VARAC.CA
One note – many will be registering early with ’24 Race Licence info – please make a note to update your registration when you receive your ’25 licence. Thanks.
