San Francisco Region 2020 Race Driver Licensing School at Thunderhill Raceway February 14-16 SFR's annual, once-a-year Competition Licensing School Entry fee = $850 Upon successful completion of the school, students receive a validated SCCA Novice Permit or Full Competition License allowing them to enter any SCCA Regional Road Racing event. School includes: three days of instruction: racing rules education, on-track training with instruction by nationally licensed drivers, and practice starts and races. Online ground school to be completed on your own before the school weekend. REQUIREMENTSSCCA Membership is required - you can join online at any time on the National SCCA web page: www.scca.com [look for Join SCCA button at top of each page] You will need to provide your own gear (helmet, suit, gloves, etc) and car. See the SFR Driver School page for the complete list of safety gear. If you want to rent a car rather than provide your own, see our Rental Car List. Novice Permit and Physical Exam - You will need to obtain your Novice Permit and turn in a Physical Exam form to the National Office. It can take several weeks to receive your Novice Permit after you send the forms to SCCA National. DO NOT leave this until the last minute! If you are 15-18 years old, you will need to complete the Minor Release and Waiver and Minor's Assumption of Risk Acknowledgment form. These are available for download, or you can contact SCCA to have one mailed to you. If you already have a Novice Permit or Competition License, you may enter the school to receive additional instruction and experience. The Thunderhill paddock will open at 5 pm on Thursday, Feb. 13 for participants to set-up their pit area. The gate will remain open throughout the event weekend. When you arrive at the track, sign the track waiver at the front gate. Event requirements
You should already have an SCCA Membership before you begin the entry process. If you do not, you can join at www.scca.com - click the Join Now button. Write down your membership number so you can include it on the entry information.
You should already be working on obtaining your Novice Permit from SCCA National. The process to get a Novice Permit is described on the announcement page for the school. You cannot attend the school without a Novice Permit, even if you complete this entry process.
If you do not already have a MotorsportReg account, please follow the steps below to create your account this first time. Next time you enter, just log into your account and future entries for SFR events will be quick and painless!
- If you do not already have one, create an account on MotorsportReg.com after reading these steps.
- Once logged in, click "My Account" in the top right
- Review your vehicle(s), making sure to enter your permanent/preferred numbers and your transponder number
- Now come back to this page and enter the event and pay online.

Transponder numbers are required for ALL CARS. If you do not have a transponder listed in your vehicle profile, you MUST rent one.
Sound limit of 103 db will be enforced for all sessions.
All drivers must still go through on-site registration at the track.
