About this event
Oh yes! – it's Marque Madness VI – two days of driving heaven on the full course at VIR – one of the nicest, best maintained and operated road courses in the U.S. If you're a member in good standing of the Audi Club of North America, BMW Car Club of America, or Mercedes-Benz Club of America, this event is for you. The cost for this event is $385 for both days, and $200 for a single day.
We will have run groups for all levels of experience – from absolute beginners who have never been on a road course, to drivers with years of track experience. Event requirements
Driver & Insurance Requirements
All drivers must be 18 years of age or older, and must have a valid drivers license. All cars must be covered by an insurance policy that provides at least $100,000 in liability insurance. Should you cause any damage to the track or facilities (e.g. by hitting an armco barrier, tire wall, or power pedestal in the paddock area), you will be required to pay VIR for the cost of repairs.
Students may not give rides to guests or other students. For the purposes of this class, everyone other than designated instructors are considered students.
Most automobile insurance policies will not cover damage to your car that occurs while you're participating in a perrformance driving school. Lockton Affinity offers reasonably priced short-term insurance policies tailored to HPDE events. [This Link] will take you to the application form for a policy to cover your car during this event.
Cars & Preparation
Student familiarity with the car being driven is a key element of the class. Once your registration is received, only the chief instructor can approve a change in car type.
Car sharing is strongly discouraged. If you plan on sharing a car, keep in mind that no more than two drivers may share a car, and you must apply for a waiver at least two weeks prior to the event. Drivers sharing a car will be placed in different run groups; they may miss run sessions and not get as much track time.
Student cars must be street-legal (to include legal levels of exhaust noise), and must have passenger seats. As a minimum cars must have functional, securely attached three-point lap and shoulder belts for both front seats. Both front seats must have equal restraint systems available (e.g. if the driver has a five-point harness, the passenger must have a five-point harness). Performance-enhancing modifications and R-compound (racing) tires are permitted but are discouraged for novices and beginners as they can inhibit learning. If roll bars or cages are installed, they must be fully padded above the level of the front door windowsills.
VIR requires that “all convertible cars be equipped with a structural, VIR-approved roll bar.” Many original equipment/stock “roll hoops,” including those on the Audi TT Roadster, the Porsche Boxster, or the BMW Z3/Z4/M3 convertible, are not approved for events at VIR. Please contact us before registering if your car is one of these mentioned. All Mercedes-Benz SLs and SLKs must run with hardtops on or up.
Car numbers will be assigned at registration. If you want a specific number, enter it on your registration form. We cannot guarantee you will get the number you request.
Helmets
Helmets must be certified to Snell M- or SA-standard, 2000 or later. The Snell Memorial Foundation certification is found on a sticker inside the helmet. If you do not have a helmet, check with OG Racing 2258 Markey Court in Sterling VA (800-934-9112) for a rental helmet. OG Racing also has good deals on helmets if you're in the market for one.
Tech Inspection
You are responsible for ensuring that your car is safe and roadworthy. You must have your car inspected by a qualified professional service technician before the event. You must present a properly completed pre-event inspection form at the track. Tip: put it in your car's glove compartment when the technician gives you the completed form. Use the appropriate form for the required tech inspection of your car. These forms are available on the Audi, BMW and Mercedes-Benz websites.
We will have a grid tech inspection on both Thursday and Friday mornings. You must present your pre-event technical inspection form as part of your first grid tech.
