About this event
The Northeast Chapter of the Audi Club of North America is pleased to announce our 5th annual NEQ Holiday Social on December 13 & 14. This year we are excited to announce a change in venue to Upstate NY's Hunter Mountain Resort.
The Saturday evening festivities, cocktail party and dinner, will take place at the Kaatskill Mountain Club at the base of Hunter Mountain Ski Resort. We will begin with cocktails from a cash bar at 5:00PM, followed by dinner at 6:00PM. The Kaatskill Mountain Club is located at 62 Liftside Drive, Lanesville, NY 12442. Entrance to the resort is off Main Street (Route 23A, between the towns of Hunter and Tannersville).
Prior to the cocktail hour, at 4:00 (right after the slopes close), Hunter Mountain will host a guided tour of their winter driving school facility for our attendees. They will have several SUV’s for our use along with our own vehicles. Hunter agreed to make every effort to allow us to drive on the slope based on their grooming schedule. NEQ will be able to preview our new winter driving school facility before our first event to get a taste of what our new school venue will be like.
Other Activities:
For those arriving early to Hunter Mountain, either on Friday night or Saturday, there are lots of fun and exciting activities in which to partake. NEQ has no pre-set plans for Saturday morning or afternoon, but feel free to enjoy some of the wonderful activities Hunter has to offer or are available near by. Join other NEQ members as they ski, snowboard (discounted lift tickets available), snow tube (sold in 2-hour blocks), relax at the spa, enjoy the outdoor heated pool and hot tubs (open to 11:00 PM), and even zip line on the mountain. Group Tour of the Howe Caverns:
On Sunday morning at 10:00, we have arranged a group tour of Howe Caverns, in Howe, NY, approx one hour north of Hunter (and approx 40 miles west of Albany). There are no age limitations on who will enjoy this tour, but it does include a walk of about 1.25 miles and .25 boat ride. Temps in the caverns are about 50 degrees.
Howe Caverns is the largest cave opened to the public in the Northeast and is also one of the most remarkable curiosities in the United States. It is believed that these caverns were formed by the Atlantic Ocean millions of years ago, when the ocean spanned inland. The caverns are composed mainly of lime rock deposits and lie 156 feet below ground. The temperature remains a constant 52 degrees F, year round. These caverns are a must to see and are one of the great natural sites in NYS.
We will begin our 90-minute tour on foot, after decent by elevator. Our experienced guide(s) will lead us through the enormous main cavern, through immense galleries and under huge boulders that hang precariously overhead. We will journey past The River Styx, The Sentinals, Titan’s Temple, and The Giant Formation to the shores of the Lake of Venus.
From there, in the cool air, our boat will launch us downriver to the edge of darkness, where no visitor has gone in over a century. On our return trip, we’ll have the opportunity to kneel at the Bridal Alter (site of nearly 600 underground weddings) and navigate the 500-foot serpentine passage known as The Winding Way, one of the world’s best examples of underground water erosion.
Hunter Resort has become a great supporter of NEQ and has worked hard to accommodate us for our Winter Social and Winter Driving School events (more to come on that), with special pricing on accommodations and dining.
