HELLS CANYON / SPIRAL HIGHWAY TOUR June 20-22, 2014
The Hells Canyon / Spiral Highway tour will be held in Clarkston, WA and Lewiston, ID on Fri-Sat-Sun, June 20-22, 2014.
This event promises to deliver driving excitement along with exceptional scenic views, while driving across the state of Washington to the SW corner of the state. The highlight of this tour will be either a jet boat ride in Hells Canyon on the Snake River, or a scenic drive on portions of the Hells Canyon Scenic Byway. [There is an optional Sunday night stay for those wishing to return home Monday.]
This event includes driving the Spiral Highway, a 10 mile stretch of driving delight with hairpin turns tucked into a 2000 foot elevation change, just north of Lewiston. Also featured will be the Rattlesnake Grade, 18 miles of highway with over 110 turns and a 900 foot elevation change, just 30 miles south of Clarkston. The optional drive along Hells Canyon Scenic Byway will offer challenging roads and wonderful vistas along Hells Canyon. This will be photographer’s dream tour.
You do not have to drive an Audi, nor be a club member to attend your first event. Persons interested in this tour may join or depart the tour along any portion of the itinerary for the weekend.
Group drive and meeting information will be provided to drivers who register for the event. There is a $10 registration fee with all proceeds going to Seattle Children's Hospital.
FRIDAY: Seattle to Clarkston/Lewiston and Spiral Highway
The tour will depart Seattle from a location and morning time still TBD. The destination is the Guest House Inn in Lewiston. The group drive will be aprox 6 hours and 302 miles. Dinner will be in Lewiston this evening. After dinner, the group will enjoy an evening drive on the Spiral Highway, continuing up and down the highway until sunset.
SATURDAY: Rattlesnake Grade and Jet Boat Tour
Breakfast at our hotel. Tour departs hotel 8:00 am for Fields Springs State Park, 30 miles south of Clarkston, then down Rattlesnake Grade to the Grande Ronde River valley. The group will traverse the grade as long as desired. Lunch will be 12:00 noon and is BYOF at Fields Springs State Park. Please be sure to bring your lunch with you Saturday morning. The tour returns to Clarkston for optional Jet Boat Dinner Cruise in Hells Canyon. The jet boat cruise departs Clarkston at 5:00p and returns 9:00pm. The dinner boat tour is $99.00 for those who are interested. 10% discount for AAA.

SUNDAY: Hells Canyon Scenic Byway / or drive home
Drivers have two options Sunday. They may take individual routes home, or can continue with the group drive to Hells Canyon Scenic Byway. The route will be determined at the discretion of the event leader. The tour will tentatively return to Lewiston for the evening. The evening will be left open so everyone may enjoy an evening of their own schedule in the Clarkston/Lewiston area. [The group can decide to spend Sunday evening in another city along the Scenic Byway route if desired; this will be discussed upon arrival in Lewiston on Friday evening.]
MONDAY: [optional]: Clarkston to Home
Drivers will enjoy early morning drive on the Spiral highway, before group drive departing back to the Seattle area NLT 10:00am.
Accommodations: FRI-SAT-SUN (optional): Guest House Inn, Lewiston, ID. The event leader has reserved 4 rooms for Fri -Sat night at the rate of $60 to $66.00 per night. The block of rooms includes 1 room with 1 King, and 2 rooms with 2 Queen beds. To reserve your room, please contact the event leader, Mark Yonker. The rate is valid until June 17. Reservation may be extended to Sun night for those who so desire. Please be sure to make your reservations through the event leader, who will contact the hotel for you.

Event requirements
Everyone must sign the Waiver if participating in the toure(s). This requirement includes drivers and guests; it makes you part of the club's insurance coverage. Parents must also sign a Teen Waiver on behalf of teens. No exceptions.
